We understand that any day soon UKOG (United Kingdom Oil and Gas) will submit a planning application to the South Downs National Park for a license to drill for oil using Acidisation (Fracking) at Markwells Wood at Forestside. The plan is for a “side track well”
UKOG drops oil production bid for Markwells Wood but promises new application in weeks
This application could land any day and it is important that residents are aware of it and are able to respond. Christmas is not a great time for a planning application to arrive.
The risk is that drilling using acidisation could contaminate our water courses and aquifers with the chemicals used in the processes. It will also have a serious affect on the local residents living near the site with increased traffic and noise.
All the water supplied locally comes from the aquifers in the South Downs so contamination would be serious. Contamination could also affect Chichester Harbour.
You will only have 21 days to respond once the application is received.
When the application is placed on the South Downs website it will be available under Stoughton Parish Council.

Should this application be approved it is likely that other applications in the South Downs and Weald will come forward. I urge all residents to comment.
